Even after the official announcement made at the BlizzCon 2019 by game director Jeff Kaplan to confirm the development of Overwatch 2, he still wasn’t able to provide a release date for the game.

In January 2020, there were rumors revolving around Twitter about a deleted tweet regarding Overwatch 2 to be released on PlayStation 4 in 2020. However, it was not confirmed by Blizzard and its developers are still hesitant to release new information about the game’s release date.

Overwatch 2 Gameplay

According to reports, Overwatch 2 will be expanding the universe through a player-versus-environment or PvE mode focusing on an all-new story. This story will be focusing more of the world and its lore that players will be able to experience.

Players can get a hint or two from the bits and pieces via cinematic trailers, comics, and cutscenes from seasonal events. So although the details about its storyline is still vague, there is a hint that it would revolve around the ongoing fight between the Null Sector and Overwatch.

Overwatch 2 will also feature a game mode called Push, which is a player-versus-player environment. This involves a new 6v6 mode wherein players will fight for control over a giant robot. Once successful, this will help players to push the marker towards the opponents’ base.

New Characters

The last hero in Overwatch has already been confirmed by Kaplan to be the character called Echo. But Overwatch 2 will be having Sojourn as a new hero. The heroes are going to be customizable in the new PvE mode of the game.

Sojourn will be a new hero that Kaplan confirmed to be a notable addition to the Overwatch squad. Additionally, she will be the first black woman in the game in which fans have already requested for quite some time now.

Overwatch 2 In Brief

Despite being a sequel to Overwatch, this is not your typical second installment. In fact, it is more on the expansion of the PvE missions. So the new story missions will have more cutscenes, dialogue, and story than the repeatable limited-time events.

Since Overwatch 2 is going all-in on the said PvE missions, new and old Overwatch heroes will be teaming up versus the Null Sector, the adversaries in the Uprising event from the original game. The game’s main campaign will be made up of co-operative Story Missions.
